Bus
  • Bus stop: Mauthausen Linzerstraße/Hauptschule, from there follow the signposted footpath to the Mauthausen Memorial, approx. 1.8 km uphill.
  • Bus stop: Mauthausen Linzerstraße/Wasserwerk, from there follow the road up to the Mauthausen Memorial, approx. 1.4 km uphill.

Station: Mauthausen OÖ, then onward journey by bus or taxi (distance from the station to the Mauthausen Memorial, c. 4 km).

By car

Parking is available for buses and cars (first four hours free; each additional hour EUR 2,00).

Camping, long-term parking and/or other uses of the car park are prohibited.

Important notice

From Friday 15 September, 08:00 pm, to Monday, 11 September 2017, 04:00 am, the Mauthausen Danube Bridge will be closed to vehicles on one side due to maintenance work. From 15 to 17 September 2017 and from 22 to 24 September 2017 it will be closed down completely. The bridge will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians.

Alternative routes for cars are:

From Vienna:

Take Motorway A1 to Ybbs an der Donau, cross the river at the Ybbs-Persenburg hydroelectric power station, continue on the B3 to Grein and Mauthausen, or

Take Motorway A1 to the exit "Amstetten West", continue on the Greiner Straße to Grein and Mauthausen.

From Salzburg:

From Motorway A1 take the exit "Knoten Linz" onto the Mühlkreis Autobahn, then Motorway A7 to the exit "Voest Alpine", continue on the B3, cross the Steyregger Bridge and continue to Mauthausen.

Please look for alternate routes, and expect traffic-related delays.
