Today, the Mauthausen Memorial is the central place of remembrance for the crimes committed during the period of National Socialist rule in Austria. Why that is and how it came to be are the topics of this special guided tour with Bernhard Mühleder - contemporary Austrian history, which began with suppression and only slowly developed into a landscape of commemoration and remembrance.

The memorial complex now sees itself above all as an international place of learning. With its education programmes it seeks to promote historical and political consciousness. The aim of the education work is to raise awareness about the re-emergence of National Socialism, antisemitism, racism, discrimination against minorities and anti-democratic tendencies.
